Bold patterns

I would really like to work with a client who is daring enough to use bold patterns. In most of my projects I've convinced my clients to use colour but never been able to use bold wallpaper... I've gotten away with bold fabrics now and then though, which is a step in the right direction! Take a look at these gorgeous rooms - the use of colour, pattern and accessories are perfect.

Decorator Alessandra Branca employs Quadrille’s Ballon de Gonesse cotton for the walls, bedding, and curtains in the guest room of the Chicago apartment she designed for her friend Joyce Dawson. The curtains are backed with Scalamandré’s Decatur Plaid silk, and the pillow shams are by Schweitzer Linen:

For the library of Lee Radziwill’s Paris apartment, she chose Mikado, a fanciful cotton by Le Manach, for the walls, curtains, and upholstery:

In the family room of an apartment he designed for Tracy and Greg Warner on New York City’s Upper East Side, decorator Philip Gorrivan used two versions of the Saya Gata pattern by China Seas as wallpaper and in a reverse colorway in linen-cotton for the pillows. The sectional sofa is upholstered in a Kravet fabric, the vintage chairs are covered in a Lee Jofa cotton-viscose, and the rug is by Beauvais Carpets:

Designer Alessandra Branca turned a small dressing room in her Manhattan pied-à-terre into a striking bedroom with striped-linen walls and bedding. The daybed, taboret, and club chair are from her Chicago store, Branca:

In their Paris apartment, Jamie Creel and Marco Scarani transform a small alcove in a cozy guest room with Pierre Frey’s Monuments d’Egypte cotton, which is used for the wall covering, canopy, and coverlet; the bed is Directoire:

Lee Radziwill chose a vintage stripe by Rubelli to use throughout the sitting room of her Manhattan apartment—on the walls, for the curtains, and to upholster a daybed of her own design; the leopard-print pillows are of a silk blend by Le Manach:

In the master bedroom of Aerin Lauder Zinterhofer’s East Hampton, New York, home, the oversize pattern of a Michael Devine linen is used on the walls and bed skirt. The bedding is by Leontine Linens, the tufted chairs are vintage Edward Wormley, and the rug is by Beauvais Carpets:

Ceramic garden stools

I love the versatility of ceramic garden stools. They can be used for stylish side tables to rest a drink on them or additional seating - or both! They are so many interesting designs too from traditional to contemporary.

Which is your favourite?

Hamptons-style home in Sydney

I love the casual style of this 1950s bungalow, on a ridge just a trot from Royal Randwick Racecourse. Perched centrally on the 600-square-metre block, with a dilapidated granny flat in the north-facing rear garden.

The all-white colour scheme, inspired by the owner's favourite designers, India and David Hicks, ties the look together. Shells, candles and hurricane lamps combine with an heirloom dining table and Windsor chairs, all in harmony with cool sea and sand accents.

Gorgeous sofa

My client and I are very excited about the delivery of this beautiful custom-made sleeper sofa. It's going to be placed in a guest bedroom/office. The space has the most amazing Chinese screen with orange and blue hues, the room also houses a stunning antique bureau. I cannot wait to see it in it's new eclectic home.

Black and white interiors

I love black and white interiors, they are so dramatic! I have just convinced a friend of mine to let me design a room in her home in black and white - I can't wait:

These rooms were designed by Tom Atwood and are so sleek with clean, minimalist lines.... just gorgeous!

Small spaces

It just goes to show that you don't have to live in a large space to get the wow factor. I love the creative designs of these rooms.

Here, an oversized mirror adds depth and light to this small yet glamourous living room. A glass-topped coffee table keeps the space feeling airy and bright.

In this 520-square-foot condo, glass walls delineate the living area and bedroom while allowing light to infiltrate the entire space. A streamlined sofa, sheer drapes, white washed brick walls and glossy flooring combine to create a sleek and modern loft space:

A comfortable sofa, an eye-catching pendant light and loads of shelving give this home office an inviting, hideaway feel. An unexpected and intimate reading space is fashioned in this narrow home office by tenting a seating area that's raised on a platform:

Deep colours, an elegant wall sconce and a marble vanity countertop infuse a small bathroom with dramatic style. This tiny powder room is treated to dark, rich wallpaper which ups the glamour factor and adds drama:

A hideaway bed offers a practical solution for small space living, clearing valuable floor space during the day. This 525-square-foot studio apartment includes the ultimate space-saver: a Murphy bed that disappears into the wall when not in use:

Quirky wall décor adds character to a tiny kitchen space. An otherwise plain corner in this compact kitchen is enlivened with a whimsical collection of pretty patterned plates displayed on wall-mounted plate hangers:

Expanding and stackable furniture is the perfect choice for small space living. This chrome and glass table keeps this diminutive dining room feeling bright and open and includes a foldout feature that doubles its size. The stylish dining chairs are made for stacking so extras can be tucked into the corner when not in use:

The furniture choice of an armless sofa paired with high-legged glass tables and tall floor lamps goes a long way towards making this small space appear larger. In this compact living room, a slipper sofa takes up less visual space than one with arms. A lucite floor lamp and leggy coffee table maintain the light, open look:

Alameda Antiques Market (Dec 09)

Laura, Jade and I braved the cold yesterday and ventured over the Bay Bridge to Alameda's Antiques market. We had a great day. There were lots of stalls full of fabulous finds. I loved these wooden sculptured spheres. I think they would make amazing chandeliers - unfortunately they were sold:

Lucite office chairs - quite funky:

This card table with little pull-outs for your drink was a steal - just needs some TLC:

Great mirrors for sale:

Gorgeous mix of upholstered chairs and wooden tables at this stall:

This was a metal console - would look fabulous in a loft:

Metal table:
Tinsel Christmas tree against the blue, blue sky:

We were just leaving the market and wondered what a small crowd were looking at. It was Eddie Ross - how cool:
