Bold patterns

I would really like to work with a client who is daring enough to use bold patterns. In most of my projects I've convinced my clients to use colour but never been able to use bold wallpaper... I've gotten away with bold fabrics now and then though, which is a step in the right direction! Take a look at these gorgeous rooms - the use of colour, pattern and accessories are perfect.

Decorator Alessandra Branca employs Quadrille’s Ballon de Gonesse cotton for the walls, bedding, and curtains in the guest room of the Chicago apartment she designed for her friend Joyce Dawson. The curtains are backed with Scalamandré’s Decatur Plaid silk, and the pillow shams are by Schweitzer Linen:

For the library of Lee Radziwill’s Paris apartment, she chose Mikado, a fanciful cotton by Le Manach, for the walls, curtains, and upholstery:

In the family room of an apartment he designed for Tracy and Greg Warner on New York City’s Upper East Side, decorator Philip Gorrivan used two versions of the Saya Gata pattern by China Seas as wallpaper and in a reverse colorway in linen-cotton for the pillows. The sectional sofa is upholstered in a Kravet fabric, the vintage chairs are covered in a Lee Jofa cotton-viscose, and the rug is by Beauvais Carpets:

Designer Alessandra Branca turned a small dressing room in her Manhattan pied-à-terre into a striking bedroom with striped-linen walls and bedding. The daybed, taboret, and club chair are from her Chicago store, Branca:

In their Paris apartment, Jamie Creel and Marco Scarani transform a small alcove in a cozy guest room with Pierre Frey’s Monuments d’Egypte cotton, which is used for the wall covering, canopy, and coverlet; the bed is Directoire:

Lee Radziwill chose a vintage stripe by Rubelli to use throughout the sitting room of her Manhattan apartment—on the walls, for the curtains, and to upholster a daybed of her own design; the leopard-print pillows are of a silk blend by Le Manach:

In the master bedroom of Aerin Lauder Zinterhofer’s East Hampton, New York, home, the oversize pattern of a Michael Devine linen is used on the walls and bed skirt. The bedding is by Leontine Linens, the tufted chairs are vintage Edward Wormley, and the rug is by Beauvais Carpets:

  1. My favorite is Ms Branca's use of the Quadrille Ballon de Gonesse...so pretty without being syrupy....is that a word, lol? I also love the squiggly blue fabric (looks like a China Seas fabric?) shown in the bedroom, which I believe was done by Jacques Grange for Aerin Lauder's NYC apt...I think? Thanks for the post!

    Happy New Year,
    Jaime
